Photorealism in Visual Effects

Join us for a talk by our very own visual effects lecturer Craig Stevenson! Craig has over eighteen years of industry experience, working both as Senior Creature Technical Director/Visual Effects Supervisor at top VFX studios around the world such as Weta Digital, Double Negative, Industrial Light & Magic, Cinesite and Framestore. Throughout his career he has worked on some of the most ground-breaking VFX scenes in Lord of the Rings, Transformers, World War Z, John Carter, Narnia, Clash of Titans and many more. Craig will be walking through some breakdowns of his feature film work, as well as discussing current industry techniques and technologies surrounding photorealistic creature creation, and exposing some of the industry’s best-kept secrets in bringing digital characters to life.

Craig Stevenson

Visual Effects TD/Senior Lecturer, 3dsense Media School

Craig is a true veteran in visual effects, having started his career 18 years ago on the classic game Worms. In 2001 he joined Weta Digital as Senior Character TD, where he worked on some of the most challenging shots in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King such as the elephant battle scene. Since then, his career has brought him around the globe to work on feature films Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, World War Z, John Carter, Narnia 3, Clash of Titans, Happy Feet 2, House of Wax, amongst many others. Working both as Senior Creature TD/VFX Supervisor at Lucasfilm, Cinesite, Framestore and Dr. D Studios, his expertise covers creature FX (cloth/skin/fur), character rigging, simulation and effects. Prior to joining 3dsense he was the head trainer at Double Negative, responsible for training all staff in 2D/3D as well as working on VFX production.
