3D Printing & Figurative Sculpting

 

4-months Fulltime Diploma

This 4 months program focuses heavily on the traditional processes of figurative clay sculpting . This program will be led by sculpting mentor Julian Khor. Students will learn the intricacy of traditional clay sculpting and 3D Printing with toy/figurine production in mind, you will learn how to sculpt 1/6 to 1/4 scale figures; as well as the mould making process, casting and painting. 3D printing will also be introduced to the you during the program. Besides the industrial knowledge of figurine production, you will have your own resin cast sculpt or 3D printed prototype.

Create Your Own Figurines & Toys

For those who would like to know how to create toys / collectible figurines from scratch to final quality production protoypes. This is for you! You will be taught the process from conceptualisation, understand the pitfalls and challenges of designing your own line of toys and figurines, all through, to the actual execution of prototyping your very first model. The mentor will guide you through the tangibles and intangibles of designing your own prototypes.

Students will graduate with the Diploma in Visual Art awarded by 3dsense Media School.
Upon completion, graduates of this program will be exempted from portfolio assessment and interview for our 1 year Diploma course for Motion Graphics, Game Art, Concept Design & Illustration, as well as 3D Animation & Visual Effects.


 

Curriculum

During this 4-month program, you will be provided the knowledge and know how in producing your own toy or figurine using both traditional and digital means. 

 

Term1 01

TERM 1

From the 1st term, a heavy emphasis will be placed on Human Ecorche sculpting, anatomy studies and life drawing. We will drill into students the important artistic foundation essential to be successful as a sculptor.

 

Term2 02

TERM 2

Students will move into production aspects of both clay figurine sculpting. You will be working with close direction from experts sculptor mentors about the process as well as ensuring your fundamentals are grounded during the process of sculpt development.

 

Term3 04

TERM 3

In this term, students will go further in mould making as well as 3D printing. Advanced aspects such as painting and various techniques of sculpting will also be drilled onto. At the end, students will be able to produced completed sculpts, finalised with paint.

3D SCANNING & Printing

An industry norm amongst toys and collectibles production. Learn how to manage 3d files from software such as Zbrush and preparing them for 3D Printing. Students will also learn various aspects of 3D photogrammetry. Not just software skills, students will learn the process on how to producing a sculpt using 3D printing.


Traditional Sculpting

You will learn the traditional way of sculpting with clay. Still the preferred method amongst professional toy sculptors today, especially portraiture sculpting as it is able to better faithfully translate finer details from mould to casts.


Moulding & Casting

For those who chose the 'traditional' specialization. Learn how to create moulds for your sculpt. Learn the techniques to create clean 2 part, block or jacket silicone moulds for perfect casts.


Painting

Your sculpts are not finish without a coat of paint. Learn how to paint realistic portrait painting and more with air brushing techniques or just with a simple brush.


Anatomy

Yes, anatomy knowledge is king. It is what makes or breaks your work. Master this and half of the battle has won. Join us for our weekly anatomies studies and figurative drawing.

Each class is capped at a maximum of 12 students. 
Classes are usually full 3 to 6 months before the start date, so please apply early!

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Above the age of 16
GCE 'O' Levels or equivalent with 3 Passes (C6 & above), including English

All applicants must submit a portfolio and pass an interview with our faculty lecturer, before final acceptance into the program.
