About the bootcamp

From First Sketch to Finished Piece

In four days you will work with the same tools, mentors and creative process used in our diploma programmes, getting a real taste of life as a digital artist. Each session is designed to be immersive, giving you room to experiment, make mistakes and discover your own approach to making compelling visual work.

Led by experienced lecturers and working industry practitioners, the bootcamp encourages you to think critically, observe closely and approach problems creatively. Whether you are sketching animals at River Safari, sculpting characters in ZBrush or animating movement in Maya, you will leave with hands-on experience across multiple disciplines and the inspiration to take your own ideas further.

Programme

Seven Workshops Across Four Days

Four days, seven workshops, each led by the mentor who teaches that discipline on our diploma programmes. Mornings and afternoons cover a different area of digital art and animation, from character design and sculpting to animation, motion graphics and visual effects. The final day moves out of the studio for a session of observational drawing at River Safari.

    Monday, 14 December

    10:00 – 13:00

    Character Design

    With Derrick Song, Art Director

    Start the bootcamp by learning the fundamentals of character design in Adobe Photoshop. Derrick will guide you through developing silhouettes, proportions and visual personality, while sharing how professional artists approach concept development from the first sketch onwards.

    14:00 – 17:00

    3D Sculpting

    With Edward Lim, Program Director

    Discover how digital sculptures are created in ZBrush, from blocking out simple forms to refining anatomy and detail. Edward will introduce the techniques used by professional character artists and explain how strong fundamentals translate into convincing 3D models.

    Tuesday, 15 December

    10:00 – 13:00

    Animation

    With Justin Kwek, Senior Mentor

    Learn the principles that make characters feel alive. Working in Autodesk Maya, you'll explore timing, spacing and movement through practical exercises while gaining an introduction to animation workflows used in the industry.

    14:00 – 17:00

    3D Printing

    With Gelissa Loh, Mentor

    See how digital creations become physical objects through 3D printing. From preparing models for production to understanding the printing process, you'll gain an overview of the workflow behind bringing designs into the real world.

    Wednesday, 16 December

    Motion Graphics

    With Manfred Seet, Program Director

    Create dynamic motion graphics using Adobe After Effects while learning how animation, typography and graphic elements work together. The session introduces the creative process behind promotional videos, title sequences and broadcast graphics.

    14:00 – 17:00

    Visual Effects & Compositing

    With Michael Rafanan, Program Director

    Explore how visual effects artists combine multiple elements into a seamless final shot. Using industry-standard compositing techniques, you'll discover how VFX enhances storytelling across film, television and games.

    Outdoor Sketching

    River Safari

    Step outside the studio for a day of observational drawing at River Safari. Sketching animals from life strengthens your understanding of form, movement and proportion while encouraging you to observe the world the way artists do.

Common Questions

Who is the bootcamp for?

The bootcamp is ideal for Secondary 3 students and above (locally) and international students aged 16 and above who are exploring a future in animation, game art, VFX, motion design, or concept art, but are still deciding which discipline suits them best. Older participants are also welcome. No experience is needed, just curiosity and enthusiasm.

What should I bring?

Just your enthusiasm. All software and materials are provided. You are welcome to bring a notebook or tablet if you like taking personal notes or sketching inspiration.

How many places are there?

Spaces are kept small, under 15 participants, so every student gets direct time with our mentors. Send your enquiry early to avoid disappointment.

Where is the bootcamp held?

At the 3dsense Media School campus, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, #03-38 The Central, Singapore 059817, in studio-style environments built for digital creation. Day 4 takes place on location at River Safari.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Every participant receives a certificate of completion, acknowledging your participation and the skills you have learned.

Do I need prior experience?

No. Sessions are structured to support beginners while still offering depth for those with some experience. You will be guided step by step through each topic.

Do I need my own software or tools?

No. We provide everything you need during the workshop sessions.

What does the SGD $700 fee include?

Everything: all four days of instruction, materials, software access and the River Safari trip on the final day. Our Admissions team will follow up after your enquiry with payment details to confirm your place.

Can international students join?

Absolutely. Students from all over the world are welcome. All sessions are conducted in English and we provide guidance so you can fully engage in the workshops.

What will I take away?

Hands-on experience with professional creative tools, exposure to real industry workflows, an introduction to multiple creative disciplines, and portfolio work created during the sessions.
